The music continues the line of Ron’s Cinematic Prog style, cohesively fusing progressive compositions, virtuosic instrumental playing and film soundtrack elements. However a new dimension is added to the production in the form of extensive virtual orchestration, a creative tool that Ron has been fascinated with in the last few years. The arrangement of “Rocket Science For Dummies” features a rich string section that blends deeply with the band and the backing synth layers into a sophisticated and at times dark texture throughout the song." Can you count along the sime signatures? 🎼

Odd and changing time sigs are nothing unusual in genres like prog and fusion, but I like to stretch them even wider to allow the expanded feeling of time, which is why they often kind of "fly around" in my songs. This is from my latest release "Rocket Science For Dummies", available now on Bandcamp.

What do you think - were these strings recorded live or sampled?

One of my greatest passions these days is virtual orchestration. There are some astounding sample libraries out there that record every little nuance of each instrument, section, articulation and dynamic expression faithfully and allow the composer to create a very realistic orchestral mockup right there from their DAW.

However the big challenge in Rocket Science For Dummies was to blend these orchestral parts with a live band and synth layers a cohesive hybrid production - no easy feat! But with some orchestration and mix experimentation and by a little help from my friends @bryanbellerbass on bass and @simonschroederdrums on drums who did such a great job on their parts, we managed to pull this together. I will keep this direction going and it will be featured also in the next album which I'm working on.
