One of the greatest perks of touring, beyond playi

One of the greatest perks of touring, beyond playing our music live to so many people around the world, is the opportunity to give workshops in music schools and conservatories, like the one we recently did at @torshavnar.musikkskuli in the Faroe Islands.

Together with a group of talented students we explored a few of the key elements of musical composition, band arrangement, production and group performance. by taking our tune "I Believe in Astronauts" and breaking it into its different sections, musical elements and instrumental parts. We discussed some fundamental and evergreen questions which every musician is dealing with at every stage of their career, such as:

- How do you begin to write a tune? What are the most important elements in a composition?
- What is musical development? How do you continue a musical idea?
- Arrangement for a band - what should the other musicians play? How much should you actually write for them vs how much should be left for them to create?
- Performance of your tune - How do you work it out with the band in action?
- Production of backing tracks - how do we add more cinematic / orchestral color and sound effects to the mix?
- Guitar solo performance & Two-Handed Tapping technique
- Mixing styles like Jazz, Fusion, Progressive Rock and Film music into one coherent piece.

It was a fun, prolific and educating experience for both the students and us.

It all started when @victornissim_ asked me "Why don't we have some music playing while we're coming up on stage, so that the audience gets in the mood while we're doing our technical stuff to get ready?" I thought it was a great idea, and it took a while, but here is our short orchestral opening tune called Twelve Suns Rise which will get our shows started in the coming tours, to be played back while we're going on stage, getting all set and exchange high-fives, low-fives and weird air guitar gestures with you at the front. ✋
